Born to Drs Raja Durai and Rohini Iyer, Chitra Iyer has been singing since her childhood. She showed her musical leanings from a very young age. Chitra had her formal training in Hindustani music from Sri Mukund Kshirsagar of Gwalior Gharana, himself a student of Pt Jasraj. She also had her formal training in Carnatic music from a very early stage. Presently, she is training with Sri Vinayak Torvi.
Chitra Iyer is one of the talented playback singers from South India. She learnt the essentials of carnatic music from her mother at a young age. She sang her first song for a Tamil film Thenali composed by A.R Rahman named 'Athini Chithini'. She travels all over the country and abroad with her orchestra and has left an unforgettable impression in the minds of music lovers with quite a few popular songs in Tamil as well as in Malayalam.
Chitra Iyer passed out from KV Kozhikode in the year 1981. She had also attended 1981school reunion event sometime in 2006 at Calicut. Jairam will be posting those pics on this site very soon.
