Based on request from the KVK alumini I am contributing this brief writeup about my late sister known to her classmates in as P. T. Sulatha.
After passing out from KVK, she graduated in Mathematics major from Malabar Christian College with flying colours and then went on to complete her BEd. from Calicut University. Before she could embark on a teaching career, she got married in 1983 to Sashidharan Kolangara, an NRI from Bahrain. She moved to Bahrain and was chosen by Philip Morris (owners of Marlbrough brand) to assist their Regional Head at their office in Bahrain. She was selected despite stiff competetion from candidates hailing from UK & Europe as the management were impressed with her numerical ability and command over English language.
Her two sons, Shyam and Shiva were born in Baharain and after a decade of living there, the family migrated to Canada, where they settled in Toronto. She again took up employment there in the Insurance sector and was holding a key position in Payroll till her untimely demise on 7.11. 2008.
Her son Shyam is passing out this year to be a doctor and Shiva is studying in his 12th grade at Toronto. Her husband Sashi is working in Toronto braving the tragedy and supporting the children. Sulatha's brothers - me and my younger brother Sudhir and our family stands solidly behind her family as one large extended family.

But used to get all the news from Sheela n did have a chat with Sulatha when she had come down to India some yrs ago. Wanted to meet her but couldnt as family needed me here then. Im in Bangalore. Regret it for not meeting her as promised to her. Thanks for the information about her to all who lost touch with her in the long run.

ReplyDeleteI am Mini, Ravi Shankar's sister. Ranjith used to keep me informed on Sulatha's condition regularily.
Our families were very close when we were in Bahrain. My son, Deepak and Shyam were good friends. It was a real shock to hear her details. I can still remember her in her school uniform with her hair tied in two sides. I will always remember her like that.

ReplyDeleteI feel so bad not having had the opportunity to meet Sulatha after 1977, even though I was in Bahrain for almost 12 years. Never knew that Sulatha was there all along. Memories are still fresh in my mind about a wonderful person. She was more dear to God and that must be why she left us for her heavenly abode. All of us pray for the family and wish them the very best.

At KVK, we grew up as equal members of one cohesive unit and sailing through as one, right through to the XIIth Std. passing out in 1979. The Company where I work, Intercol, were and still continues to be the sole distributors for Phillip Morris in the Kingdom of Bahrain, and Our Executive Secretary, Mrs. Smitha Vinodh used to tell me about (her mentor and idol)a very smart executive Secretary at Phillip Morris (RO) by name Sulatha, when I had just joined the Company in 1993. This led me to the offices of Phillip Morris (Reg.Off.) only to be overjoyed to see my lovely class-mate running the office, and be overawed by her capabilities of handling the entire Bahrain day-to-day operations single-handed since her higher-ups were mostly on tour. I treasure those memories to this very day. Raju, it was unfortunate that by the time we knew that each of us were on the island, Sulatha and her family had already migrated to Canada.
As expressed elsewhere on this blogspot, we will be in touch with you, Mr. Suresh and Mr. Sudhir on matters of common interest which is the up-keep of that wonderful spirit of Late Sulatha alive. God bless !! P K Ramdas
I was out of touch with everyone until last year. My uncle informed me of the sad news immedietly after seeing the newspaper. I was shattered.My heart goes out to the boys.
ReplyDeleteI recollect the beautiful times we spent in the +2 classes when we had become a smaller, closer group. May god give the family the strength to go on.
